The Challenge
Power & Construction Group is a multifaceted organization that manages a portfolio of ten distinct service divisions, including Aggregates, Bridge Construction, Civil, Electric, Environmental, Traffic Services, Traffic Signalization, Transportation & Logistics, Underground Services, and Utility Structures.
PMs faced challenges in monitoring labor expenses, performance metrics, material quantities, and equipment usage across multiple projects and divisions using Sage 300 CRE or Excel.
The company engaged Josh Frizzell, an external CFO, whose primary objective was to enhance financial transparency for senior management and provide comprehensive project data to Project Managers (PMs).
Generating reports in Sage 300 was a slow and laborious process, particularly for numerous projects that are contracted out.
Josh understood the critical need for a more streamlined and efficient reporting mechanism within Sage 300, especially for managing outsourced projects.
The Anterra Solution
As a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP®) and Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) advocate, Josh Frizzell’s mission was to address P&CG’s specific business challenges.
Based on a recommendation from a Sage business partner, Josh enrolled in Anterra’s Free Trial of Anterra Data Center (ADC) to extract his ERP data and create custom reports. Upon further exploration, he discovered that Anterra CPM could already generate the BI visualizations he required. This prompted his participation in their second free trial offer of the Anterra BI CPM Platform.
Given the positive outcomes of both free trials, Josh decided to follow the Sage partner’s recommendation for Anterra and deliver a comprehensive global overview to the executive team rather than starting from scratch.
The financial group can view consolidated data and maintain separate folders for subsidiaries, power, and construction. This allows them to break down data by division, track performance, and hold teams accountable for their goals. Additionally, project managers can easily oversee numerous projects, as they handle a significant amount of self-perform work.
Previously, project managers had faced challenges using Sage software to view all their projects and drill down to visualize performance metrics such as quantities, labor costs, and equipment usage on a weekly basis. With Anterra they are able to drill down and see all of this data whenever needed.
